Library of Congress Surplus Books in Scandinavia

As Scandinavia Public Library director, I recently visited the Library of Congress (LOC) to see what they aren't adding to their shelves! Like other libraries, there are some items that aren't added to the LOC collection such as duplicate items and out-of-date and discarded materials. Representatives of educational institutions, public bodies, and non-profit tax-exempt organizations may select materials from the Library of Congress Surplus Books Program at no cost for their organization. In addition to satisfying my curiosity about what was on the surplus shelves, I went to select items for the Scandinavia Public Library.

Volunteer Opportunities

Our volunteers are priceless! Here are some of the volunteer opportunities that are available:

Reading - Readers are needed for children's story hour, especially during the summer.

Writing - The library is seeking volunteers to write press releases or newsletter articles to be used in print and/or web format.

Leading - Help is needed in either designing or leading craft activities for children or adults.

Get Involved!

The Scandinavia Public Library is the vibrant place it is due to many volunteers and donors. The community and library board is very thankful to them.
